This is something I've heard more than once. Or that if we give the OK to take one part of the cannabis plant, that would clear the way for use of THC.
This would be the same as asking if eating poppy seeds are a gateway to heroin use.
Just like poppy seeds and opium come from
the poppy flower, CBD and THC come from
the cannabis flower. And similarly, one can be consumed safely and the other is a controlled substance that produces a ‘high’.
Poppy seed is the seed from the poppyplant. People take poppy seed by mouth for asthma, constipation, cough, diarrhea caused by infection, difficulty sleeping, and to diagnose a condition called vesicoenteric fistula. In foods, poppy seed is used to make cakes, pastries, filling, glaze, or porridge. Because poppy seeds come from the seed pods of opium plants, they can be contaminated with opium milk, which contains morphine. Before they’re used as an ingredient in baking, the seeds are cleaned and processed but are still likely to contain traces of opiate residue.
CBD comes from the resin of the cannabis plant. While there are versions of cbd oil that contain THC, by definition, that which comes from hemp would have less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. And many versions are available that have removed all but trace amounts of THC (Numbers like 0.01% or less).
So, if someone compares taking CBD oil to smoking marijuana, you can now help them see the difference by using this simple comparison.
